Carrier Grade Voice

To date I have developed a number of carrier grade voice systems utilising off the shelf open source software solutions.

I have found Kamailio and RTPEngine to offer a premium Session Border Controller (SBC)/Media Gateway product, handling both authentication and presence information efficiently.

Adding Freeswitch as the backend, the software switches I have supplied allow for high availability & resiliency, large amounts of calls per second (CPS), autoscaling, and five nines (99.999%) uptime.

When running a carrier grade voice switch monitoring and alerting is imperative to providing a sound product and user experience; monitoring provides essential metrics in order to determine the health and efficacy of the system.
Monitoring is supplied as part of any solution I provide to clients. This allows engineers to be notified of issues long before customers, resulting in an improved product and customer experience.

DevSecOps

Metrics and blind spots are the number one cause of outages in organisations which lack the DevOps approach.

My extensive experience allows me to develop a DevSecOps strategy for your business, including systems such as CI/CD, monitoring, and a re-think of the way software is developed, security scanned, and deployed.

Systems Architecture

Infrastructure

At the base of every system is its infrastructure, which includes both the network and the storage component. I have extensive experience maintaining both on premises hardware and cloud systems throughout a multitude of Operating Systems and cloud orchestration software.

As well as this I have extensive experience administrating both open source and proprietary database systems.

RESTful APIs

A functional API can make or break an organisation. More and more users want the ability to access their data in a programmatic way in order to have ownership over their data. I have been architecting and developing RESTful APIs since 2015, architecting each in such a way where five nines (99.999%) uptime is a achievable goal.

I have previously written my own API framework with a RAML file input which described the API and set up the structure accordingly (koa-api-framework).
The benefits of this at the time were to include both documentation and API structure within the same file, however it has since been superseded by the OpenAPI Specification.

Kubernetes

Kubernetes is available in both on premises and cloud based Kubernetes services, and each presents its own unique challenges. I have managed Kubernetes for 5 years now and am well versed in the nuances of its architecture and workings.

To date I have performed a number of migrations to and from on premises/cloud K8s solutions.

Team Management & Leadership

Having lead multiple teams in previous roles and currently providing consulting to team management, I have developed the experience and soft skills required to maintain a productive and happy team.

I understand and actively support each team member's drive to deliver to their best ability. Where guidance is necessary, I use my expertise to point them in the right direction.

I pride myself on having gained the respect of the teams I have lead, as well as the friendships I have forged along the way. I am well respected by my peers for involving them in critical discussions such as systems architecture, implementation, and delivery.
